Gibraltar (/d???br??lt?r/ jih-BRAWL-t?r, español: [xi??al?ta?]) es un territorio británico de ultramar y ciudad situado en el extremo sur de la Península Ibérica, en la bahía de Gibraltar, cerca de la salida del mar Mediterráneo hacia el océano Atlántico (Estrecho de Gibraltar). Tiene una superficie de 6,8km2 (2,6 millas cuadradas) y limita al norte con España (Campo de Gibraltar).
El paisaje está dominado por el Peñón de Gibraltar, al pie del cual se encuentra una zona urbana densamente poblada, hogar de unas 34.003 personas, principalmente gibraltareños.
Gibraltar fue fundada como atalaya permanente por los almohades en 1160. Cambió el control entre los nazaríes, castellanos y meriníes en la Baja Edad Media, adquiriendo una mayor influencia estratégica tras la destrucción de la cercana Algeciras hacia 1375. Volvió a formar parte de la Corona de Castilla en 1462.
En 1704, las fuerzas anglo-holandesas capturaron Gibraltar de España durante la Guerra de Sucesión Española, y fue cedido a Gran Bretaña a perpetuidad en virtud del Tratado de Utrecht en 1713. Se convirtió en una base importante para la Royal Navy, particularmente durante las Guerras Napoleónicas y la Segunda Guerra Mundial, ya que controlaba la estrecha entrada y salida al Mar Mediterráneo, el Estrecho de Gibraltar, con la mitad del comercio marítimo mundial pasando a través de él. The Europa Point Lighthouse was built by Governor Sir Alexander Woodford between 1838 and 1841. It was fully automated in February 1994 and its loom can be seen over a distance of 27 km (17 mi). It is the southernmost lighthouse for which Trinity House is responsible, and the only one outside the British Isles.

It is the only purpose-built mosque in Gibraltar to serve the Muslims in the territory who number over 1,000. It was officially inaugurated on 8 August 1997.
